  Father's Day, in the United States, holiday (third Sunday in June) to honour fathers. Credit for originating the holiday is generally given to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. 

   Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, is usually credited for originating Father's Day. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother's Day, which was emerging as a holiday. The first known Father's Day service occurred in Fairmont, West Virginia, on July 5, 1908, after hundreds of men died in the worst mining accident in U.S. history. 


    Grace Golden Clayton, the daughter of a dedicated minister, proposed a service to honor all fathers, especially those who had died. The Father's Day is celebrated across the world with the objective of realising and honouring the contribution of fathers in the society. It is a day which celebrates the fatherhood, paternal bonds and the efforts of male parents towards their family and society. The tradition can be found in over 111 countries around the world, and this year the day will be honoured on 19 June in the UK. However, Father's Day falls on different dates depending on each country's own tradition.

Father's Day in Philippines 2022 is Sunday, June 19.
